67 Blanket Drive for Mandela Day – Help Us Beat 300 Squares in 2026!

In the spirit of giving back and honouring Mandela Day, we are once again launching our 67 Blanket Drive — and we need your helping hands to make it our most successful year yet.

In 2025, our incredible community came together to create 300 knitted and crocheted squares, which were sewn into beautiful blankets and distributed to those in need. For 2026, we are setting the challenge to surpass 300 squares — and with your support, we know it’s possible.

How You Can Participate

We invite all moms, sisters, aunts, grannies, oumas, magogos, gogos, nannas, yiayias, babushkas, gigis, omas and nonnas — and anyone who loves to knit or crochet — to contribute.

What to Make

Knitted or crocheted squares
Size: 20cm x 20cm
Please measure your squares carefully to ensure they are the correct size, as this makes joining them much easier for our volunteer team.

Our volunteers will sew the squares together into warm blankets that will be distributed within our community.

Knitting Guidelines

If you are using double knit wool (charity wool is a cost-effective option), the following stitch counts can be used as a starting guideline. Please note that tension varies from person to person.

44–45 stitches on 4mm needles
40–42 stitches on 4.5mm needles
35–36 stitches on 5mm needles

Adjust as needed to achieve a true 20cm square.

Why 67?

Mandela Day encourages each of us to dedicate 67 minutes of our time in service to others — representing the 67 years Nelson Mandela devoted to fighting for social justice. By knitting or crocheting a square, you are turning your time into something tangible: warmth, comfort, and care.

Every square is a contribution.
